Job Story
The Student Assistant will support ongoing research projects related to special education, teacher education, motivation, and psychological well-being. The student will assist with a range of research-related tasks under faculty supervision.

Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
- Assist with organizing and managing research materials, including articles, survey documents, interview protocols, and data files

- Support data collection activities, such as preparing survey materials, recruitment documents, and participant tracking spreadsheets

- Assist with qualitative data organization, coding, and theme development

- Support quantitative data entry, cleaning, and basic organization

- Help prepare tables, figures, reference lists, and manuscript materials

- Attend research team meetings and provide updates on assigned tasks

- Complete other research-related tasks as assigned

Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.


Required Experience

Preferred Qualifications
Current undergraduate or graduate student at Wichita State University

Interest in education, special education, psychology, teacher preparation, or related fields

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Strong written communication skills

Ability to work independently and complete tasks by agreed-upon deadlines

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Drive, or similar tools

Interest in learning research methods, literature review procedures, survey research, or qualitative/quantitative data analysis

Prior experience with research, data entry, qualitative coding, or citation management software is preferred but not required

Additional Information
This position is expected to require approximately 10 hours per week, with no scheduled work hours during semester break and spring break. The specific work schedule is flexible and will be determined based on the student’s availability and project needs. Some tasks may be completed independently, while regular check-in meetings with the faculty supervisor will be scheduled as needed.

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
