Job Summary
A Graduate Staff Assistant (GSA) assistants university service and academic units in either non-teaching or non-research activities. Specific duties of the GSA vary widely, depending on the administrative or academic unit to which they are assigned, but should be at a level to make use of their education and abilities.

Job Duties
Provides technical support to customers of the University services, including system access, wireless networks, email, University websites, ticketing requests, and other services. Offers a full range of services necessary for operating the University client computers and peripherals. This position will focus on helping students with personal devices. In addition, Help Desk support is provided via phone, email, online ticketing, and walk-ins. Duties include but are not limited to assisting in password resets, troubleshooting general access issues, and creating tickets (work orders) for servicing university-licensed software and hardware. The Help Desk must work closely with other team members outside the Help Desk, including Desktop Support, Windows Server Group, Network Support, Telecom, and others. Customer satisfaction is paramount. This position reports to the Lead and Manager of the Technology Help Desk. The employee will receive assignments, general directions, and priorities from the Lead or Manager of the Technology Help Desk, Director of Client Services, and Chief Information Officer.

Additional Requirements
Essential Functions

• Assists users with authentication to University networks, applications, and
websites.
• Responds to and diagnoses problems through user discussions,
including problem recognition, research, isolation, and resolution. Solves less
complex equipment and application issues.
• Refers to problems that require a higher level of expertise and in-person service
to desktop support staff. Alerts appropriate staff to issues that have the potential
to disrupt network functions.
• Diagnoses, may repair, and maintains various computer devices, operating
systems, network connections, and hardware and software.
• Contact clients regularly to discuss specific symptoms of equipment
failure, the nature of repairs required, and possible solutions to equipment
problems. Update the ticketing system as needed.

Required Experience
To be eligible for an assistantship, students must be admitted to a degree program in either full or conditional standing. Students admitted on probation or placed on academic probation following admission may be eligible for assistantship awards under certain circumstances.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Must possess a strong customer-centered philosophy.
• Must be able to offer assistance adapted to clients' computer abilities.
• Working knowledge of Windows Operating System, Mac OS, and Android.
• Professional personal presentation.
• Excellent listening skills
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Written communication skills
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
