Shape the next generation of manufacturing professionals. We are seeking an experienced and engaging Lecturer in Machining Technology to teach, mentor, and prepare students for careers in modern manufacturing. This position offers the opportunity to combine industry expertise with hands-on instruction in machining, CNC operations, quality control, and manufacturing best practices within a dynamic academic environment.
Job Duties
The Lecturer in Machining Technology delivers classroom, laboratory, and project-based instruction in machining and manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will teach conventional and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining, blueprint reading, metrology, quality systems, safety practices, and manufacturing process improvement concepts. The lecturer will support student success through hands-on training, curriculum development, industry engagement, and academic advising.
1. Teach undergraduate and/or technical courses in machining, manufacturing, and related engineering technology subjects.
2. Deliver classroom, laboratory, and project-based instruction in:
o Manual machining
o CNC machining
o CNC programming (G-code and M-code)
o Blueprint reading and GD&T
o Metrology and inspection methods
o Manufacturing materials and processes
3. Develop and maintain course materials, assignments, laboratory exercises, and assessments.
4. Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback.
Laboratory Management
1. Operate, demonstrate, and supervise the use of machine shop equipment, including CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual mills, engine lathes, grinders, and related equipment.
2. Ensure safe operation of laboratory facilities and enforce compliance with all safety requirements and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.
3. Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration, and inventory of tools and consumables.
Student Engagement
1. Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, career planning, internships, and industry certifications.
2. Support student projects, competitions, applied learning activities, and capstone projects.
3. Maintain regular office hours and provide academic support to students.
Curriculum and Program Support
1. Participate in curriculum review and continuous improvement activities.
2. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and industry partners to ensure program relevance and workforce alignment.
3. Assist with accreditation, assessment, and program evaluation efforts.
Industry and Continuous Improvement
1. Maintain knowledge of current machining technologies, manufacturing trends, automation, and Industry 4.0 practices.
2. Identify opportunities to improve laboratory operations, instructional effectiveness, and student learning outcomes using continuous improvement methodologies.

Additional Requirements
1. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
2. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in laboratory environments for extended periods.
3. Strong mathematical skills, including fractions, decimals, geometry, trigonometry, and machining calculations.
4. Ability to operate machine tools safely and effectively.

Required Experience

Preferred Qualifications
1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
2. Previous teaching, corporate training, apprenticeship instruction, or workforce development experience.
3. Experience editing and troubleshooting G-code and CNC programs directly at machine controls.
4. Industry-recognized certifications such as:
o NIMS Certifications
o SME Certifications
o FANUC Certifications
o OSHA Safety Training
5. Experience machining diverse materials, including:
o Aluminum
o Stainless steel
o Tool steels
o Plastics
o Composites
6. Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and computer-aided manufacturing systems.
7. Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
8. Familiarity with quality management systems and manufacturing standards.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
