Hire Type: Full Time

Pay: Range begins at $15.34 plus $.60 per hour shift differential and can be adjusted based on experience

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm but must be willing to adjust for special events and projects

Export Compliance Requirement: No export control requirement.

Job Story

The Custodian of Special Events and Projects plays a key role in keeping the WSU campus clean, disinfected, and safe while supporting the energetic flow of athletic, community, and special events that bring the university to life. This dynamic position adapts to shifting schedules, including weekends, evenings, and nontraditional hours, to ensure every event shines, from packed athletic games to campus wide celebrations. In addition to event support, this role also contributes to important campus projects such as floor refinishing, carpet extraction, deep restroom sanitization, and seasonal maintenance tasks that keep facilities in top condition. The position also champions environmentally conscious “green” cleaning practices, helping create healthier spaces for students, staff, and visitors. Job Summary

Performs routine manual work in cleaning, servicing, and stocking supplies in University buildings as well as routine manual work including set-up and support for University and athletic facilities special events and projects, excluding housing facilities.

Essential Functions

Assists University special events by providing support before, during and after events. Sweeps, mops, and buffs and sprays buff floors and vacuums rugs and carpets in assigned area as needed. Provides support for floor care, including restoring, maintaining, and refinishing floors of all types as well as other custodial special projects. Washes windows, walls, and other assigned areas. Picks up trash, empties garbage containers, and removes all trash to area for disposal. Cleans rest rooms, offices, and replenishes supplies. Maintains sufficient stock and supplies for the proper performance of assigned duties. Shovels and removes snow and ice from designated areas such as roofs, sidewalks and entryways as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn the operation and care of equipment, including, but not limited to: vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with fellow workers and others.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to understand and follow explicit instructions, both in oral and written form.
  • Ability and willingness to perform any of a variety of routine cleaning tasks.
 

Additional Information:

PLEASE NOTE: The support of special events and campus projects will require shift changes, working weekends, odd shifts, and other changes to benefit the event schedule. You must be able to adjust your schedule for special events and projects.

 

 For training purposes, your first three to five days will be on 1st shift from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to position self to clean designated areas, equipment and items. This includes but is not limited to the ability to clean in confined, elevated, and loud noise spaces. Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includes dexterity in instrument manipulation. Ability to move, transport, and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment. Ability to remove snow and ice from designated areas. Ability to ascend and descend ladders and/or stairs.

Additional Physical Requirement:

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force to constantly move objects.
