Job Story
The Custodial Student Assistants (CSA) is primarily responsible for cleaning the Housing and Residence life assigned buildings and grounds maintenance including the one dining facility in such a way to promote health and safety. The custodian follows daily, weekly, monthly and end of semester (seasonal) cleaning schedules including, the dining facilities, dormitories, lounges, lobbies, kitchens, office areas, restrooms, and entrances.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
• Cleans restrooms, kitchens, multi-purpose rooms, elevators, stairwells, windows, door handles, and walls using germicidal solution as scheduled or needed
• Maintaining a variety of floor surfaces, tiles, carpet, vinyl using various types of custodial chemicals and machines.
• Participating in moving, (lofting and bunking beds) furniture and equipment
• Collects and bags all garbage and place bags in dumpster
• Disinfects and cleans garbage and trashcans, and change bags daily, washes and sanitizes bathrooms fixtures daily with germicidal solution
• Using germicidal solution, wet mops all washable floors daily
• Vacuums all carpeting daily
• Sweeps and clears entrance spaces
• Dusts, washes, and sanitizes other surfaces as specified in schedule
• Performs other cleaning duties as specified in schedule
• Refills paper towel, tissue, toilet paper and hand soap in all dispensers
• Need for cleaning supplies or equipment repair in advance
• All other health and safety hazards noticed; participates in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as requested
• Attends and participates in departmental and university trainings
• Other duties as assigned
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
Additional Requirements
• Applicants must be enrolled as a WSU student for the semester they are applying to work.
• Applicants must be in good conduct standing with the University (not on probation) in order to apply for the student position. If the staff member becomes not in good standing during the course of employment, they could be asked to leave the position.
• Student staff members are hired for the summer season. Student staff showing exceptional work may be offered an academic year student position.
• The first 30 days of a student staff member’s contract period are to be considered probationary. Staff members not making satisfactory progress at the end of 30 days may be released from their position.
• Any position offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a university background check.
* Student staff members are expected to continue positive academic progress by:
a. Having a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater at the time they apply for the position and at the end of the spring or fall semester prior to beginning the position.
b. Receiving a semester GPA of 2.5 or greater as well as maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater. Staff who do not achieve these standards will be placed on HRL Academic Probation for the following semester. Staff below the 2.0 GPA should consult with the supervisor to determine if continued standing as a Student Staff member is in their best interest.
c. HRL Academic Probation may only be used once during any 24-month period of time. If a staff member returns from academic probation and fails to meet requirements again within twelve months, they will not be permitted to continue in any HRL position.
* Student staff members must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credits or more undergraduate and 9 hours graduate) and making academic progress toward graduation.

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
