Job Story
The ideal candidate for this Communication Intern position is a creative and motivated individual who enjoys telling stories, building connections, and bringing ideas to life through digital platforms. They will have strong communication skills, an interest in social media and external outreach, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams. This intern will be eager to share their knowledge by leading a workshop with our Cross-Center Communication Group, while also supporting efforts to grow our online presence and strengthen external communication strategies. Most importantly, the ideal candidate will bring curiosity, initiative, and a passion for using communication to make a meaningful impact.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
• Lead a Workshop: Share communication insights and best practices by hosting a session with the Cross-Center Communication Group.
• Social Media Support: Assist in creating, scheduling, and managing content to increase our presence on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X (Twitter).
• External Communications: Collaborate on messaging, design, and strategies that raise the visibility of our organization’s work through newsletters, blogs, media outreach, and digital storytelling.
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
Additional Requirements
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience or interest in social media management, digital marketing, or communications
• Ability to work independently and collaborate across teams
• Creativity and an eye for compelling, broad storytelling
• Familiarity with platforms like Adobe and/or Canva, and social media scheduling tools

Preferred Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or a related field.

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
