Job Story
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures (MCLL) at Wichita State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish position to begin Fall 2025. Candidates will be expected to teach courses in Peninsular literature and Spanish Cultural Studies. The ideal candidate will have an active research agenda and evidence of excellence in teaching. The ability to teach Spanish for the Professions courses and/or work with Hispanic heritage speakers are a plus. As we are an emerging Hispanic Serving Student Institution, the candidate should have a desire to work with this population and the local Latino community, promoting student and community engagement.

Job Summary
Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels using various instructional deliveries (e.g., traditional (face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online). To foster applied learning into the course design and engage with industry and local business community applied projects. To advance knowledge through scholarly activities (e.g., active involvement in committees, student mentorship, recruitment and retention initiative, outreach activities, etc.)
Essential Functions
Meet expectations for research, teaching, and service as set forth by the department and college.
Job Duties
Candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teaching load is three courses per semester. The applicant will provide service to the department and is also expected to play an active role in the community of WSU and the Wichita area.
Faculty Requirements
Applicants must have a PhD in hand by August 2025 or a defense date set.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Evidence of excellence in teaching and an active research agenda.
- Native or near-native fluency in Spanish is required
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
