Candidates will have an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of real estate education and research at Wichita State University. The position will play an important role in advancing the Real Estate program, strengthening partnerships with the real estate industry, and contributing to the development of innovative academic and applied-learning initiatives that respond to the evolving needs of the commercial and residential real estate sectors.

The Department of Finance, Real Estate, and Decision Sciences in the W. Frank Barton School of Business invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Real Estate, beginning August of 2027.

Successful candidates will also play an important role in the academic leadership and continued development of the Real Estate program, with the opportunity to assume formal program leadership responsibilities accompanied by an additional stipend. The candidate will be actively engaged with the Center for Real Estate and its research, educational, and industry partnership activities. As the candidate develops in the role, and depending on qualifications and mutual interest, there may also be an opportunity to serve as Director of the Center for Real Estate.

Job Summary

Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels using various instructional deliveries (e.g., traditional (face-to-face), hybrid, and fully online). To foster applied learning into the course design and engage with industry and local business community applied projects. To advance knowledge through scholarly activities (e.g., active involvement in committees, student mentorship, recruitment and retention initiative, outreach activities, etc.)

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. Teaching: Teach two courses per semester (four courses per academic year) in the Real Estate program at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with courses offered in both in-person and online formats. Teaching assignments may include, depending on the candidate's expertise and program needs, Principles of Real Estate, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Valuation and Appraisal, Real Estate Law, Property Management, Real Estate Investment Analysis, Urban Land Development, and other related courses.

2. Applied Learning and Industry Engagement: Incorporate applied and experiential learning into course design and develop meaningful opportunities for students to engage with the real estate industry and broader business community through applied projects, case studies, professional engagement, and other experiential learning activities.

3. Research: Develop and maintain an active and sustainable research program consistent with AACSB Scholarly Academic (SA) expectations and the requirements for tenure and promotion at the Barton School of Business. The successful candidate will be expected to produce high-quality scholarly research with the potential for publication in respected and leading journals in real estate, finance, economics, or closely related fields.

4. Service and Engagement: Contribute meaningful service to the department, Barton School of Business, university, profession, and broader community. Service may include participation in committees, student mentoring, student recruitment and retention initiatives, professional organizations, industry engagement, outreach activities, and other activities that advance the mission of the department and school.

Required Education and Experience:

• Terminal degree in direct field
• Teaching experience

Faculty Requirements

• A Ph.D. in Real Estate Finance, Economics or a closely related field from an accredited institution, with demonstrated teaching and/or research expertise in real estate.
• Applicants who are at an advanced stage of their doctoral studies (ABD) will be considered if they provide strong evidence that all degree requirements will be completed by the end of May 2027.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree completed or in progress at an AACSB-accredited institution.
• Relevant professional or industry experience in real estate or a closely related field.
• Experience incorporating applied or experiential learning into teaching.
• Research expertise directly related to real estate and its application to industry, communities, or public policy.
  
  
• Evidence of an established record of scholarly research or a strong research pipeline with demonstrated potential for publication in high-quality real estate, finance, economics, or related academic journals.
• Evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, effective teaching in real estate or related areas. Evidence may include teaching evaluations, course development, applied-learning activities, instructional technologies or software, experience with multiple instructional delivery formats, or other indicators of teaching effectiveness.
