Department: Wichita State Intercollegiate Athletic Association

Campus Location: Wichita, KS - WSU Main Campus

Hire Type: Full Time

Pay: Range $50,000 - 70,000/yr, based on qualifications

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8a to 5p & flexible (require attendance at contests/competitions); work is performed on-site and in person.

Export Compliance Requirement: No export control requirement.

Job Summary

Devises training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, maintains athlete records, and teaches strength and conditioning classes, as needed.

Essential Functions

Designs and implements strength training and conditioning programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for athletic programs, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. Conducts an annual needs-analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach and the team's athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season. Meets regularly with sport coaches to determine athlete's needs. Consults with the sports medicine or athletic training staff, as needed. Maintains the strength and conditioning facility, and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility.

Job Duties

You will be involved in implementing strength training and conditioning programs for baseball and men’s and women’s tennis programs. The goals to obtain are improved athletic performance, reduce injury risk, and teaching lifelong fitness to student-athletes

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, biomechanics, physiology or related field
  • One (1) year of experience in strength training or related field

Required License/Certifications/Training:

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid Training and Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
Certified by a strength and conditioning organization that meets NCAA requirements for Division 1 athletics..

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge with using various sports science technologies including but not limited to force plates, velocity-based training devices and human motion analysis.
  • Ability to connect with a diverse population, maintain professional relationships with people across all hierarchies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with administration, sport coaches and student-athletes.
  • Ability to support the holistic development of WSU student-athletes.
  • Must be able to make sound judgements and decisions.
  • Capable of meetings deadlines and documenting information with accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a primary sports performance coach for one or more sports program.
  • Experience designing and implementing sport-specific training regimen backed by sound scientific principles for injured and non-injured student-athletes.
  • Experience using various sports science technologies including but not limited to force plates, velocity-based training devices and human motion analysis.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information. Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to position self to participate in development appropriate activities with athletes. Ability to move, transport, and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment.
