Summary of Responsibilities

Keep station operation in compliance with FCC regulations. Technical maintenance of radio station equipment and computer systems at KMUW studio facilities and transmitter site. Support users of equipment.

Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree with engineering background, or at least four years of demonstrated work experience in an engineering position within the broadcasting field by hire date.
Minimum Experience
  • Technical skills in the areas of troubleshooting, maintenance, installation and operation of broadcast and production equipment, including computing, audio processing, STL, Internet and RF transmission equipment.
  • Computer set up and installation experience, digital audio skills including an understanding of digital sound file acquisition, delivery and storage, computer networking, configuration and setup.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital FM RF plants, including planning, building, maintenance and testing, and strong working knowledge of basic analog and digital circuit design.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • FM Transmitter maintenance, knowledge of high voltage maintenance practices
  • Facility maintenance skills (including but not limited to coordinating contractors)
  • Satellite downlink repair and maintenance
  • Windows and Mac configuration and repair
  • IP and baseband audio setup and troubleshooting
  • Equipment repair to component level
  • Ability to plan, determine costs for and direct a project, including planning and appropriate and complete documentation, delegating assignments, directing contractors and follow-up.

  • ENCO automation operation / configuration
  • Some basic programming skills in: JavaScript, PHP, HTML, batch files
  • Server and network switch configuration and maintenance
Regular Hours of Work 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. M-F, some evening and weekend work as required to maintain operations and make emergency repairs; on-call 24/7
Environmental Factors

High Voltage in transmitters, loud environment in transmitter building and at concerts, temperature extremes during outside work for maintenance or concert recording. Safely work in the dark during power outages.
