Summary of Responsibilities

Supervise field research in Kansas grassland habitats sampling plants, insects and birds: supervise field crews, conduct data analyses, prepare reports and manuscripts for publication, maintain lab, and organize equipment.

Minimum Education
  • Graduate degree in ecology, agroecology, soil science, environmental science, entomology or related field.
Minimum Experience
  • Familiarity with sampling plant biomass and community composition and insect sampling (pitfall and sweep-net samples) and bird surveys (line-transect surveys, nest monitoring).
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in field navigation using GPS or ability to learn.
  • Experience working in demanding field conditions such as hot, sunny, hiking.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Ability to manage field technicians
  • Demonstrated skill in statistical analysis, particularly with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) or related modeling
  • Excellent writing skills as evidenced by publications or thesis/dissertation.
  • The ability to work well independently and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully initiate, manage, and complete professional projects -ability to multi-task and give careful attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic and professionalism.

Position Description Information

Preferred Education
  • PhD in ecology, agroecology, soil science, environmental science, entomology or related field.
Preferred Experience
  • Additional modeling or analytical expertise such as ArcGIS, multivariate analyses, and proficiency.
  • Experience with driving vehicles on unimproved roads.
Regular Hours of Work M-F 8am to 5pm except in field season May-July
