Summary of Responsibilities

The Director of the Center for Public Health Initiatives is the responsible leader for the Center. Leadership includes the delivery of high quality services that meet the needs and expectations of its partners. Developing the external relationships that are both helpful and necessary for the continued strength and future growth of the Center is expected. Center responsibilities include the development and oversight of dozens of projects with a range of complexities; developing project budgets and the overall Center budget as well as overseeing the expenditures; and providing development opportunities, support and supervision of the CPHI professional staff. The Center director is expected to be an active partner in the public health system in Kansas, regularly leading initiatives, with the team, and presenting at state and national conferences. Additionally, the director will serve on the Community Engagement Institute’s team of Directors, offering support to the further development of projects and opportunities for the full Institute.

Minimum Education
  • Master’s Degree in related field
Minimum Experience
  • Five years of experience providing Public Health services through state, local or tribal government, community-based and/or nonprofit organizations or academic public health.
  • Demonstrated success working independently in project leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success in developing the relationships needed to obtain, deliver and renew a variety of funding streams.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Ability to collaboratively work with internal and external partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to facilitate large and small groups.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout the state.
  • Knowledge of the governmental public health system in Kansas and the US
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Project budget management experience

Preferred Experience
  • More than ten years of experience working with governmental public health, community-based and/or nonprofit organizations.
  • Advanced experience and/or training in an identifiable line of work (e.g. Leadership Development, Community Development, Public Health, Local/State Government).
  • Preexisting positive and productive working relationships throughout the Kansas Public Health system or a demonstrated ability to establish such relationships.
Regular Hours of Work 8-5 Monday - Friday

Normal working environments include working on-site in an office setting and externally in community settings.
