Summary of Responsibilities

The Clinical Educator is a member of the core PA faculty with responsibility for carrying out the duties related to teaching, scholarship, service, and advising. In performing these duties s/he is expected to develop, coordinate, and implement classroom and small group/laboratory instruction; maintain a high level of expertise in the content areas taught; engage in curricular assessment and improvement activities, provide academic research and professional mentorship to students, and conduct scholarly activities in areas of interest/expertise as appropriate. Faculty of the department also participate in program-related college, university, and community initiatives.

Minimum Education

Graduate of an accredited PA program

Bachelor degree from a regionally accredited institution

Minimum Experience

Minimum of five years clinical practice experience

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Demonstrated commitment to diversity

Demonstrated interest in working in a collaborative/interdisciplinary team environment

Commitment to inter-professional education
Experience in scholarship/research or grant writing

Required Licenses, Certificates & Registrations

Current NCCPA certification

Current license or eligibility to obtain license as a physician assistant in Kansas

Proposed Job Duties

Responsibility / Duty

The faculty member will:
Carry out the responsibilities of course instructor as assigned by the Program Director in the didactic and clinical phase of the program.
Coordinate didactic components of clinical courses in assigned areas.
Prepare and deliver classroom instruction in lecture and case study format as assigned.
Participate in/facilitate small group interaction/discussion groups in selected curricular areas as assigned.
Participate in clinical teaching, simulation and evaluation activities in all phases of the program.
Participate in student counseling and advising.
Participate in student, staff, faculty evaluation and development.
Assist with curriculum planning and development.
Serve as a member of the Admissions Committee of the PA program.
Regularly attend and participate in faculty meetings and retreats.
Serve on departmental, school and university committees.
Act as a representative of the program at public and community relations activity as needed.
Represent the program at on site evaluation visits of new and established rotation sites.
Assist in the development of departmental/program policies and procedures as requested.
Conduct research/scholarship in the department.
Participate in grant related/funded activities necessary to fulfill grant objectives.
Participate in the planning and evaluation activities of the department and college.
The faculty member is encouraged to:
Maintain a clinical practice, as time and responsibilities permit.
Be active in community service.
Solicit and/or author or assist with grant proposals.
Participate actively in PA professional organizations on the local, state and national levels.
