Summary of Responsibilities

The faculty member is responsible for carrying out the duties related to teaching, scholarship, service, and advising. In performing these duties s/he is responsible for the administrative tasks associated with each general area. Faculty of the department should be involved in research and scholarly activities, service to the university and community, student advising, and ongoing professional development.

Minimum Education
  • Graduate of an accredited PT program
  • Terminal degree from an accredited institution (e.g., PhD, EdD, ScD).
Minimum Experience
  • Minimum of three years clinical practice experience
  • Minimum of one year teaching experience in college program in rehabilitation field.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving and counseling skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g. word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act or with students from diverse populations
  • Evidence for potential ongoing achievement in research.
  • Evidence for potential to initiate and assess PT curriculum coursework.
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
  • Evidence of potential to participate in department, college, university , and professional service activities

Position Description Information

Preferred Education
  • Board Specialty Certification.
Preferred Experience
  • Teaching experience in accredited PT program
  • Track record of successful scholarship commensurate with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor
  • Evidence of potential to apply for and succeed in obtaining externally or internally funded grants
  • Evidence of being a full time faculty in an accredited university program
  • Experience in teaching any or all of the following in an accredited PT program: geriatrics, neuromuscular rehabilitation, acute care, orthotics and prosthetics, patient care skills
Regular Hours of Work Normally Monday-Friday 8-5 with occasional evenings and weekends

Proposed Job Duties

Responsibility / Duty

The faculty member will:

1. Carry out the responsibilities of course instructor as assigned by the Program Director in the didactic and clinical phase of the program.
2. Coordinate didactic components of clinical courses in assigned areas.
3. Prepare and deliver classroom instruction in lecture as assigned.
4. Participate in/facilitate small group interaction/discussion groups in selected curricular areas as assigned.
5. Participate in clinical teaching, simulation and evaluation activities in all phases of the program.
6. Participate in student counseling and advising.
7. Participate in student, staff, faculty evaluation and development.
8. Assist with curriculum planning and development.
9. Serve as a member of the Admissions Committee of the PT program.
10. Regularly attend and participate in faculty meetings and retreats.
11. Serve on departmental, school and university committees.
12. Act as a representative of the program at public and community relations activity as needed.
13. Assist in the development of departmental/program policies and procedures as requested.
14. Conduct research/scholarship in the department.
15. Participate in grant related/funded activities necessary to fulfill grant objectives.
16. Participate in the planning and evaluation activities of the department and college.

The faculty member is encouraged to:
1. Maintain a clinical practice, as time and responsibilities permit.
2. Be active in community service.
3. Solicit and/or author or assist with grant proposals.
4. Participate actively in PT professional organizations on the local, state and national levels.
