Job Story
The NIAR ATLAS lab is looking for a student assistant to help with their XRD system.

Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
Prepare and analyze samples using XRD for qualitative and quantitative analysis
Maintain and calibrate the XRD system regularly. Log experimental procedures and results systematically
Support researchers with method development or specialized measurements (e.g., variable temperature, grazing incidence)
Ensure proper safety protocols and documentation compliance.

Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent

Requirements
Hands-on experience operating XRD equipment (e.g., Bruker, PANalytical, Rigaku systems)
Understanding of crystal structures, Bragg's Law, phase identification, and lattice parameters
Proficiency in XRD data analysis software (e.g., HighScore Plus, Topas, FullProf, GSAS, JADE)
Familiarity with sample preparation techniques for powders, thin films, and single crystals. Basic troubleshooting and calibration of XRD systems

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
